Describe your event or Safety concern with your Own Words

My drone DJI mini 4 pro hitted tall grass before landing. I got the warning ” Motor Overload ” What should I do now ?

Technical analysis

Thank you for your report, Julien. ” Motor Overload ” is an urgent situation. As with all red warning alerts in aviation, this requires urgent action from the pilot. Contributing Factors : ▪︎ Propeller obstructed while hitting the grass → ESC (Electronic Speed controller) regulates the motor’s speed (RPM). It takes DC power from the battery and converts it into AC to drive the brushless motor. If the motor experiences resistance-such as for tall grass-the current draw increase while RPM drops. In such cases, the Flight Controller (the drone central computer) detects the abnormal situation (high current-low RPM) and triggers a “Motor Overload” warning. Others common causes : ▪︎ Propeller bent, cracked or unbalanced. ▪︎ Strong winds. Risk : ▪︎ if prolonged → Red alert “Motor Overheat situation” ▪︎ Battery depletion due to excessive current draw. ▪︎ Flight becomes unstable. May lead to a crash. ▪︎ Motor failure in flight → Crash. Corrective / Preventive action : ▪︎ 👉 In flight : 1. Stay calm and keep control : smooth actions on the sticks. Avoid aggressive maneuvers like sharp turns. 2. Reduce speed. 3. Land safely right away. ▪︎ 👉 Post-flight : 1. Inspect the propellers / motors. Remove the cause before flying again. Apply the post-warning inspection checklist. 2. If you decide to resume flight without replacing the motor, perform a stability and alarm status check. Hover the aircraft at low altitude and short distance for about a minute. If the aircraft is unable to lock its position or attitude or if warnings keep popping up, the flight must be aborted. While keeping it low, maneuver the drone up/down, laterally, in yaw, and forward/backward. Watch closely for any abnormal behavior or attitude such as jolting or oscillations. Be conservative. If there is a doubt, there is no doubt. Replace the motor. Drones are more expensive than motors.
